PRIOR 2017 CRT TOURING AS TORAH TRIPS

ISRAEL – March 13-22, 2018
An American Jewish Encounter with Israel: Roots and Ties – Faith and Culture – Dialogue and Dissent
Modern Israel is a complicated mix of all of these themes for us. We are bound to this land, this nation and its people by deep ties of history and destiny. There is incredible beauty and inspiration in visiting Israel, but the stark disconnects between our own understandings and commitments as American Reform Jews – and the complex political and religious forces that shape Israeli life today – can leave us with many painful dilemmas as we seek to navigate this unavoidable relationship. In the midst of the exciting, impressive, transforming- and very fun-filled experiences we will share, our visit will forthrightly embrace all of these ambiguities… as we seek new insights and ways to confront the challenges.

If you have visited Israel before – even many times we are confident that approaching this journey with the always special CRT perspective will offer new dimensions of meaning. If you have never been to this historic birthplace of our Jewish faith and values, which is also a vital and critical stage for the events that are shaping our world today, we know that you will come away with a profound and memorable experience – made all the more special by being shared with our CRT family. Please sign up to be on our list as we plan this experience: info@centralreformtemple.org

CRT’s 2017 Journey to Spain
Our journey to Spain provided us with an opportunity to encounter and experience the Jewish heritage of what is known in our tradition as Sefarad – from Roman times in the First Century through the “Golden Age” of coexistence with Muslims and Christians from the 9th to the 14th Centuries – tragically ending with Expulsion and Inquisition in 1492 ‐ and now witnessing a new era of rebirth. We explored the beautiful cities of Madrid, Toledo, Granada, Seville, Cordoba and Barcelona. Continue to read about our trip to Spain, including Rabbi Berman’s poem “Kaddish at Parking Space Number 9.”

May 2017 trip to New York City!
Gantze Apple: A Weekend in Jewish New York

As part of our learning experience our touring at Torah programs provide our members a chance to learn and visit one city within the US and one trip abroad.  Our trips this year are New York City and Spain. The last weekend of April our congregation traveled for the Gantze Apple: A Weekend in Jewish New York. Members Shelly Cohen and Dr. Joseph Zibrak provide their reflections below.
